  2. I have had so much fun picking books to present tomorrow night. Thought you might be interested in the ones I eventually de-selected.
Monday Mornings by S. Gupta (contemporary medical novel)
Wild by Cheryl Strayed (Oregon Trail adventure)
Perla byCaroline DeRobertis (Argentinian historical fiction)

There are so many great books out there. Hard to find the time to make the best of all of them. See everyone on Tuesday. bb

  3. I just finished “ Before We Were Yours” by Lisa Wingate. I gave it 4 stars out of 5. The subject material was difficult. Children abducted from their families (often indigent) and placed in affluent homes. The really horrifying thing is that the story is based on fact and a real person named Georgia Tam. The underlying story which was also a challenge for me was the challenges of deciding what is best for a loved aged one. I think we all fear the prospect of losing our ability to think and remember—that’s why I am SO GRATEFUL to have such an age continuum in our book club. And that’s also why I keep reading—to learn, to challenge, to hopefully improve. May have to go a little lighter with my next book!

  4. Turns out, my department manager is an author! She is self published, but I purchased her books to check them out. The genre is young adult fiction. The main character, Jasper Penzey, is a 9 year old that finds himself in situations requiring an active mind and solving skills. Knowing Monica, the author, made it quite fun for me to read these books. I could ‘hear’ her personality coming out in Jasper and she did a good job of imparting parental nudges without being preachy. I would recommend these to any 4-6 grade readers. Author is Monica LaSarre and books are “Jasper Penzey International Boy Detective”. There are 2 books available currently and she is almost done with the third.
